Welcome to the National Food and Energy Council (NFEC) site! The NFEC is an association of nearly 200 electric companies, cooperatives and public power districts.  Helping our members serve their rural customers is our primary goal. This is done through educational materials, training courses, and direct technical assistance to members.

Originally formed to help utilities with their agricultural customers, NFEC has expanded its scope.  Now we provide technical support and assistance to help power suppliers with their rural businesses and commercial key accounts.  Specific topics include motor efficiency, security lighting for businesses, standby generator sizing and distributed generation sources, key accounts programs, wiring or grounding upgrades for power quality, and new options for serving three-phase loads with single-phase service.

Specific Benefits To Members:

  1. Employee development training, primarily in areas where customer-contact staff need to expand their skills and service to rural business customers. Most courses are offered in a 1 or 1½ day format that can be brought to your region. Handouts and valuable reference materials are always included.
  2. Education materials that include consumer-oriented pamphlets, videotapes, interactive CDs, reports and other publications to use as in-house references or to enhance your customer education program. View the Materials to Order section to learn more.
  3. On-line education through the NFEC Web site, with it "Members Only" section. You’ll get access to password-protected information, i.e. newsletter-ready articles, updates on hot topics, free resources we’ve discovered, and answers to tough customer questions.  You'll be able to tap our knowledge and that of other experienced power suppliers.
  4. A utility marketing newsletter that delivers solid ideas, technical updates and practical solutions. Much more than other "fluffy" newsletters, Current Marketing delivers insight into the needs of rural business or agribusiness customers, case studies, electric technology reviews and application tips. This bimonthly newsletter is only available to NFEC members.
  5. Annual utility conference that brings you practical knowledge and allows you to interact with other utility professionals firsthand. This national meeting lets you expand your network of contacts, generate new ideas, learn from other successful utility programs and get updates on new technologies.
  6. Customized services to help you with specific needs. You’ll save valuable time and frustration by tapping our wealth of resources and network of experts. For larger projects, work with Executive Manager Richard Hiatt on an hourly basis and get direct answers, and suggested approaches. A true time saver.
  7. Discounts on electrical safety resources are available to improve your safety communications. Safety display, handouts, and stickers for tall farm equipment (only available from NFEC) can be ordered. Check our Materials to Order section for details.
  8. Public awareness campaign to carry the message of electricity's value and safe use to outside audiences.  As your public education partner, we're sending news releases and other mailings to vocational instructors, rural magazine editors, consumer groups and other key audiences.

We invite you to be a part of this worthwhile program. If you believe in what we’re doing, call Richard Hiatt at (937) 383-0001, or e-mail us at info@nfec.org. Membership fees & discounts are listed on our informative Web site at www.nfec.org/howtobecomemembers.htm

Together we can do it better!
