Energy
Fundamentals
Great for teachers or those explaining the basics of our
energy world. Organized by type of energy, the book
provides a concise review of coal, oil, natural gas,
electricity, nuclear energy, and renewable sources.
The heart of the book is a set of "energy lessons"
(31 in all) that offers hands-on demonstrations and lessons,
including reproducible visuals. A final section
contains "just for fun activities" -- energy
games, word puzzles, and classroom contests. The book
also provides a helpful energy curriculum; it's a detailed
outline of the concepts needed to explain our use of energy.
Developed by the National Science Foundation, this is a
valuable bookshelf resource.

Energy Posters
|
|
|
|
| Here are four new
resources to help you promote electricity's value and safe
use with schools, or other audiences. They're large
and colorful posters, each 23" x 35", with
eye-catching artwork and important consumer messages.
These posters can be used in several ways to enhance your
customer education programs and classroom support
activities. Each poster has a wealth of useful
material on the back. Descriptions and illustrations
about each concept are given, along with suggested
activities. These posters are produced by the
National Energy Foundation, and we've made a discounted
purchase that we want to pass on to our members.

Sizing
and Selecting Your Standby Generator (A
guide for homeowners, farmers and small businesses)
This 20-page guide explains the
operation, sizing and installation of electric
generators. It applies not only to farms, but to
residential and small business applications as well.
Sizing and Selecting Your Standby Generator covers
engine-driven and tractor-driven generators, portable
and permanently installed. It explains how to
match the electrical capacity of a generator to the
needs of a particular application. One section is
devoted to the requirements and installation of a
double-throw switch. This essential component of
any auxiliary power installation prevents electrical
hazards for both equipment and utility personnel.
Three examples are used to convey sizing procedures, and
numerous visuals help clarify key concepts. Also
listed are the names, locations and phone numbers of 32
major suppliers of standby generators. There is
also a section on the use of standby generators in
utility peak demand programs.
